MES5 Individual Specialization
What is the MES-5 Individual Specialization Module?
The MES-5 module gives you the opportunity to take self-selected courses that meaningfully complement the topic area of your master's thesis in order to set an individual specialization. The chosen courses must cover the scope of 20 ECTS and must lie within the spectrum of environmental sciences.
Which courses are eligible for MES 5?
Here you can find a list of recently approved courses.
Please note that you are not bound to these courses: We encourage you to search autonomously for appropriate courses in the full course offering of the University of Vienna (u:find). However, courses must be at master’s level and cover key topics in the field of environmental sciences.
Before Taking Your MES-5 Courses:
Your MES-5 course selection has to be approved by the head of studies in advance.
- Please send an email to master.environment@univie.ac.at with a list of courses you intend to take for MES-5. If you later need to update the list, please inform us.
After completing your MES-5 Courses:
If the courses don’t appear on the MES-5 module in your transcript of records, they have yet to be allocated. This could ideally be done collectively after all MES-5 courses have been completed. To do so, follow these steps:
Courses that appear under the wrong MES module or interest module in your transcript of records
- An allocation request has to be made. Please write an email to the SSC GGA (ssc.gga@univie.ac.at).
Courses completed at external institutions
A request for recognition has to be submitted. Please provide the following documents and send them to master.enviroment@univie.ac.at:
- Request form (“Antragsformular”)
- Recognition table (“Anrechnungstabelle”)
→ both documents can be found here (“Antrag”) - Course certificate or transcript of records of the external institution
The head of studies will approve the completion of the courses, provided that they are master level courses and the objectives of the module are met.
